The Golden Rule: BLOT, Don't Rub

If you take away nothing else, remember this: never rub a stain! Rubbing pushes the liquid deeper into the fibers and spreads it around. Always blot gently with a clean, dry microfiber cloth or paper towel to lift the moisture straight up.

Tackling Common Stains

• Coffee/Tea: Mix 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, and 2 cups of warm water. Sponge the stain with the mixture, blot until the liquid is absorbed, and sponge with cold water to rinse.
• Oil/Grease (Food): Sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch heavily over the spot to absorb the oil. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then vacuum it up. Treat the remaining mark with a tiny drop of dish soap (like Dawn) before washing.
• Ink: Dabbing with a cloth lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol can help lift ink stains. Always test on an inconspicuous area first!

When to Wash

Once you have treated the stain, immediately put the sofa cover through a cold, gentle machine wash. Do not let the spot treatment chemicals sit on the fabric for days, as they can cause discoloration.
